A wellness retreat in the northwoods

Twenty minutes from Wausau, on a working butterfly sanctuary. A wood-fired sauna, two ponds, walking trails and meadows left to the wildflowers, and the option to take the whole place for your group.

What kind of retreat

We provide the setting, you bring the retreat

There is no spa here, no treatment menu and no set schedule. What you get is quiet ground, room to spread out, and the freedom to run your own retreat the way you want it.

Yoga and movementThe meadows and the open ground by the ponds are where groups set up. Bring your own mats, and your own instructor if you are working with one.
A wood-fired saunaShared, outdoors, lit with wood. Cold water and open air a few steps away.
A butterfly sanctuaryThe land is the base camp of the Save A Monarch Association. The wildflowers are planted for the pollinators first.
A shared indoor spaceThe corn crib. Round, green-roofed, and strung with lights, with a fire and chairs inside. Somewhere to end up after dark.
Two pondsA canoe, kayaks, and a dock to sit out on with the water either side of you.
Trails and hammocksWalking paths through the woods, and plenty of spots to hang a hammock.

Taking the whole place

For a workshop, a healing retreat or a family gathering, the whole property can be booked at once: two A-frame cabins, six tent sites, the yurt, the sauna, the ponds and the corn crib, with nobody else on the land.

Whole-property stays have no fixed nightly rate. Send your dates and group size and we price it by hand. You accept or decline the number we send, and only then is there a card involved at all.

Every month the retreat also hosts its own gathering about healing: past ones have included a guided yoga class and a native plant workshop.

It is rustic, and that is the point

A retreat here is not a hotel with a wellness floor. Read this before you plan anything around it.

Questions

What people ask before booking a retreat

Are there wellness retreats near Wausau, Wisconsin?

This one is about twenty minutes from Wausau, at 177852 County Hwy Z in Aniwa. It is a rustic camp rather than a spa: cabins, a yurt, tent sites, a wood-fired sauna and two ponds on a butterfly sanctuary, bookable whole for a group.

Can I run my own retreat or workshop here?

Yes. Book the whole property and the land is yours for the dates. Bring your own instructor, mats and food. Call or send a message with your dates and group size and we will price it by hand.

How many people can stay?

Two A-frame cabins sleeping two each, a yurt sleeping two, and six tent sites. Group size for a whole-property booking depends on how many are camping, so tell us the number and we will tell you straight whether it works.

Is there a spa, massage or treatments?

No. There is a wood-fired sauna, a solar shower and an outdoor bathtub, all shared and outdoors. Nobody here offers treatments.

What is the best season for a retreat here?

The yurt is open May through September. The cabins and tent sites are not seasonal, but the wildflowers, the monarchs and the warm evenings are a summer thing. June to September is when the land is doing the most.
