The Karner Blue
A-frame cabin · just over the bridge
The one guests ask for first. Cross the bridge and it's waiting in the trees.
- Sleeping pads & cots
- A deck of its own
- No power at the cabin
A peaceful, rustic escape for healers and those seeking renewal, surrounded by wildflowers, ponds, and quiet trails.
Surrounded by nature, The Wellness Retreat offers a simple, grounding space for workshops, gatherings, and quiet reflection. Whether you're here to lead, learn, relax, or heal, our retreat invites you to slow down, connect with the land, and recharge in a calm, natural, and real setting.
It's rustic by design: wood-fired sauna, solar shower, hammocks strung between the trees, two small ponds, and meadows thick with black-eyed susans and butterflies. Come as you are.

Two hand-built A-frame cabins, six open sites for tent camping, or the whole retreat to yourself for a gathering.

A-frame cabin · deeper in the woods
Set back among the trees, and quieter for it. For disappearing a couple of days.

Canvas bell tent · May to September
A canvas bell tent pitched behind the iron arch. The one stay with its own power.

Six sites · pitch your own tent
Woodland pads on wood chips, with the shared kitchen a walk away.

Everything, exclusively yours
Both cabins, the yurt and all six tent sites for a workshop, retreat or gathering.
The kitchen downstairs in the main cabin is the hub, shared by everyone staying: power, a fridge and freezer, a hot plate and a toaster oven, pots and pans, utensils, and cabinets to keep your food in. There is shelving to the right of the fridge, so you can keep your own food together and separate from everyone else's. Bring food and you have almost everything else. Drinking water comes from an electric five-gallon dispenser in there, hot and cold, on demand. Washing up happens outside at the hose sink, in the open air. There is no indoor plumbing, and between the dispenser and that sink you have what you need. Out at the sites it’s properly rustic. Only the yurt has power. The round green-roofed corn crib belongs to everyone. There is a fire going, cards and games on the table, and the lights stay on after dark. It isn’t somewhere to sleep, it’s somewhere to end up.
Spend your days by the water and the wildflowers here, then explore the parks and lakes just up the road.
Each month, The Wellness Retreat hosts a special event related to healing. Past events have included a guided yoga class and native plant workshops, and we're excited to host more.
Nothing on the calendar just now. We host something most months, so it is worth checking back, or following along on Facebook.
When the sun drops behind the pines, the paths light up and the whole retreat softens into something magic.
Real photos from the land: cabins, tents, trails, ponds, wildflowers, and the evenings.
Pick your spot and your dates, and we'll confirm by email and text. Booking the whole retreat? Choose "Entire Campground" and tell us about your gathering.

About 20 minutes east of Wausau, and roughly 19 miles by road. The mailing address is Aniwa, but the property sits west of the village, closer to Wausau than the town name suggests. Green Bay is about an hour and a half, Stevens Point under an hour, and Antigo about twenty minutes.
There is no indoor plumbing anywhere on the property. Drinking water comes from an electric five-gallon dispenser in the shared kitchen, hot and cold on demand, and it is refilled for you. Washing up happens at an outdoor sink fed by a hose, which is cold. There is no water at the cabins or the tent sites.
No. Power exists in exactly three places: the shared kitchen downstairs in the main cabin, the corn crib, and the Wood Turtle Yurt. The yurt is the only stay with its own electricity. If you need to charge a phone or run a CPAP, you do it in the shared kitchen rather than at your site.
Yes. Firewood is free, and there is a fire pit. You do not need to buy or bring any.

Food, bedding, a torch or headlamp, and layers. The kitchen covers most of the rest.
The Wood Turtle Yurt is a summer stay only, open May through September. The A-frame cabins and the tent sites are not limited to those months.
Yes. The entire retreat can be booked for a group, a family reunion or a gathering: two A-frame cabins, six tent sites, the yurt, the sauna, the ponds and the grounds. It has no fixed nightly price; send an inquiry and we price it by hand.
No. Your card is authorized, not charged. Nothing is taken until we confirm your stay by hand, and if we cannot host you the authorization is released.
Yes, a wood-fired sauna, shared by everyone staying. There are also two small ponds with a canoe and kayaks, walking trails, a butterfly house, and meadows we let go to wildflowers on purpose.
Please leave us a review. Honestly, it's the best thing you can do to help this small sanctuary. We have no advertising budget, so a few words from you is how the next person finds this place at all. It takes a minute, and we read every one.
